Dans A Volante, a Randfontein dance studio ended off 2016 with a bang and is preparing for yet another successful year.
The studio has been around for 17 years and has produced big names in the dancing world. The club’s principal, Melissa Badenhorst is a Royal Academy of Dance qualified ballet teacher who also knows her onions when it comes to modern and tap dancing as well as Pilates.
“I believe that good technique is paramount in producing good dancers [and] that is why we prepare for exams every year. A lot of hard work goes into preparing for these exams, but in the end being stronger and more capable makes dancing that much more fun,” Melissa said.
The studio participated and fared brilliantly at Raca, Eisteddfod, National Eisteddfod Academy (NEA) as well as the Roodepoort Dance Festival.
They achieved 10 first positions in ballet, tap, lyrical and jazz dancing among the 22 competing dance schools. For their other items, they placed in the Top 3 of those competitions.
Dans a Volante students are now gearing up for their upcoming dance exams as well as the South African Dance Championships.
Melissa, who is very excited about the students’ achievements as well as the year ahead wishes her students all the best for yet another successful year.
