The new MFC champ is here

18-year-old from Greenhills takes SA's MFC Heavyweight Champion title in Durban.

A local Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter recently took the title of the South African Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC) Heavyweight Champion.

After two years of participating in title shots, his hard work has finally paid off. On Sunday, 28 August, 18-year-old Ruan Erasmus fought in the MFC Championships at the Greyville Racecourse in Durban, and took home the victory after finishing the fight with a technical knock-out (TKO).

Ruan Erasmus is proud of his achievement.

“It was indescribable fighting for this title. The feeling I experienced was absolutely amazing,” Ruan said.

He now plans to defend his title during three MFC Championships before fighting professionally on an international level.

Ruan also holds the title of South African Amateur Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion. His inspiration comes from Leon The Iron Lion Mynhardt, an MMA fighter from Pretoria.

“My motto in life is that there’s no elevator to success, one has to take the stairs,” said Ruan.

Ruan has fought a total of 41 fights in MMA and kickboxing, and was victorious in all but four fights.

This is an enormous achievement for Ruan and his club, Mile High Kickboxing, as he only began participating in this sport six years ago.
