Sports tournament to keep the youth out of trouble

'We want to get the young ones off the streets and onto the field to build a positive mentality in them'

Abel Manyanya, the founder of Ziveze Youth Development has come up with an initiative to host the first ever Ziveze Tournament.

Abel, who will act as the organiser of the event, partnered with the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture in Randfontein in an effort to keep youngsters out of trouble and interested in sports.

“We want to get the young ones off the streets and onto the field to build a positive mentality in them,” Abel said.

The tournament will consist of four sub-tournaments that will be held on 17, 18 and 24 September. The categories include U/17 netball, and U/10, U/13 and U/17 soccer.

Abel Manyanya, founder and organiser of Ziveze Youth Development with Lesiba Shima, member of the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture Randfontein. Both are very excited about the tournament.

A few favourite indigenous games will also be played at Lebopa Park on 17 September, while the rest of the tournament will take place at the Mokwepa Sports Ground.

Abel thought it appropriate to approach various tuck-shops for trophy donations. The tuck shops that have donated trophies are: the Mapeding Tuck Shop (U/17 netball); the Siyazama Tuck Shop (U/17 soccer); and the Mkhize Tuck Shop (U/13 soccer). The Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture in Randfontein has donated a trophy for the U/10 soccer.

The draws to determine each team’s opponents will be held on Saturday afternoon, 10 September at the tuck shops sponsoring each category. The U/10 soccer category’s draw will be held at Mkhize Tuck Shop.

Abel would like to thank the Rand West City Local Municipality for its support and cooperation.
