Teams needs assistance to follow their dreams

Senior team football player urges businesses to sponsor equipment

Getting talented young community members off the streets has always been difficult.

However, the Junior Birds Football and Netball Club has succeeded in mobilising the youth in its area to attend practices instead of playing gambling games or partying. Micheal Tsone (23), one of the senior football team players, told the Herald that the only thing the club needs now is good team managers.

“My team needs a reliable body to take on the social responsibility of getting us to the next level,” Micheal said.

Micheal hopes that once the team has a good team manager, it will be able to register at the South African Football Association. He says it is the only way the team can compete in a larger league.

The team is also in dire need of new equipment. Rudolf Lifting Equipment sponsored soccer balls and two shirts for each of the players in the team in March this year. But, as the team relies solely on sponsorships, they cannot buy any other necessary equipment without the help of local businesses.

“We shouldn’t be sitting at home doing nothing, but we need the help of businesses in order to progress,” Micheal said.
