Bowls of steel

Bowling is not just for the elderly.

Dan Brown wrote, “Precision can be suffocating,” which is anything but true for the Randfontein Bowling Club.

Precision has never been more freeing than on the the rinks of club. While bowls is seen as a sport for the elderly, it is a sport for those dedicated to accuracy.

The bowling club will be host to an auspicious event which has never been held in Randfontein before. They will be hosting the Gauteng Bowls Open during the first and second weeks of July.

The event held in Randfontein will be for singles and pairs. 17 clubs from the Gauteng region will be participating and members encourage residents and bowls enthusiasts to watch as history is made.

This is not the only happening at the club – every last Sunday of the month they have an open day where members of the public who are interested in learning to play are welcome for a few lessons and to break bread with members of the club.

The next open day will take place on Sunday (25 June) and the day after the club will have their Annual General Meeting (AGM) to elect a new committee.

So far the club has been very successful and has come highly commended by the Sables Bowling Association. Their success has much to do with how the club is run and their fundraising projects one of which is their recent move to hire their hall out for functions such as weddings and birthday parties.
