Hockey men hammer boys from Alberton

RHC triumphs over Cambrians once again.

Randfontein Hockey Club (RHC) went on a cleaning drive on Sunday, 5 June, sweeping their opponents, Cambrians Hockey Club, right off their feet with a 4–0 win.

The match took place on Hoërskool Riebeeckrand‘s sports grounds on an icy winter morning. Although the match started late, the Randfontein men were warmed up and ready for action. The team’s new training kit and balls, sponsored by Gauva Technology, were seen in action.

RHC previously confronted the Cambrians on 10 April, hammering the men from Alberton with a score of 7–0.

Before the match on Sunday, the Herald asked RHC captain, Pieter Liebenberg, what he thought their chances of winning might be, bearing in mind that the team has remained unbeaten in the league and against Cambrians.

“We may have played against them before and won but every win you can only count for that once that you’ve won. Who’s to say they won’t come back strong? We take everything in our stride,” was his response.

On Sunday, RHC ran out and dominated ball possession from the start. In the first half of the match, Cambrians couldn’t even muster a shot at goal, let alone penetrate Teine’s striking circle (D).

Although RHC dominated the match, they missed a number of goal shots in the first half, due to a slightly off-target left winger who crossed balls over to open space RHC couldn’t manage to fill, but this was just RHC warming up. Later in the first half, they put two easy balls away at the back of Cambrian’s net.

The second half also yielded two RHC goals, making them the only unbeaten team in the league so far.

RHC goal scorers:
• Kevin Steyn

• Bennett Mchabeleng
• Stephan Hetzel (two goals)
