Randfontein’s Wonder Woman

This superhero wears heels, has a chiseled body and has time management as a superpower.

When thinking of superheroes, a cape and special powers are involved but, this superhero is a regular mom that wears heels, has a chiseled body and time management as a superpower.

Janine ‘Wonder Woman’ Ferreira as she has been dubbed by the Herald was in the Mrs South Africa top 100 and has recently taken first place in the International Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation bikini fitness division.

Janine said she has always been active thanks to her father, Jannie van Loggerenberg, who is heavily involved at the Randfontein Rugby Club.

She said she used to train seriously but stopped for about two years before she decided to get back on the fitness horse. While some people struggle to lose weight and get a chiseled body, Janine started doing boot camp and shortly after became too fit for it and had to have her own boot camp group.

She started her boot camp group in October last year and in December she began weight training.

I did about six weeks of serious prep before the competition and, of course, I have an awesome coach in Prinses Susan who was a previous MTN Gladiator,” she said.

“Everyone who is with me by Prinses Susan placed at the competition. We may just be three but we went to the competition like 300 and we did well,” she joked.

Janine’s training regimen includes strenuous ketosis and training hard every day.

“Before the competition, I trained for two hours every day.

It just becomes a part of you.

“It’s like eating. You need to eat so you need to train,” Janine explained.

Randfontein’s Wonder Woman is currently training for and training her group for this year’s Comrades Marathon. Apart from her personal fitness goals, Janine helps out at Hoërskool Riebeeckrand; she does the netball girls’ fitness.

Janine said she loves working with younger women as she feels they need role models and usually the role models they choose aren’t good influences therefore she feels she needs to be there for them.

One would think that Janine spends all her time training and taking on projects but she has a full time job, a husband and two children. Still she manages to take on Mrs SA, bikini fitness competitions, marathons, charity work and runs a boot camp group.

Her secret, she said, is having a routine.

“I always tell my son that if there are 12 hours of the day you’re awake and can use, use 13 of those hours.”
