It’s Easter soccer time!

'R40 000 is up for grabs. We expect a humdinger.'

Teams in and around Randfontein once again will battle it out at the annual Greater Randfontein Easter Soccer Tournament (Grest) to be held at the Mohlakeng Stadium.

The tournament kicks off on Good Friday, 25 March and finishes on Easter Monday, 28 March.

Abe Montoedi, the founding member of the games said, “Teams from Mogale City challenge the locals from Mohlakeng.”

Mogale City teams that have entered include the defending champions, Munsieville Magicians, as well as last year’s runners-up BUGP from Tarlton and Celtics from Kagiso. Fochville All Stars from Merafong in Carletonville also will play.

Teams from Mohlakeng include Four Stars, ADC, OutParty and Black Stars – coached by Portia Modise, a former Banyana Banyana captain and top goal scorer for All Saints.

Abe added, “R40 000 is up for grabs and as the Grest organising committee, we expect a humdinger.

Throughout the 13 years of the tournament we have seen top names in the Professional Soccer League (PSL) making an appearance such as Oupa Ace Manyisa and Roger Majafa, both players for Orlando Pirates.

“What we also have picked up is that during the tournament there is less crime in Mohlakeng and it locals can do business there, selling food and drinks.”
