A trip to New York for wheelchair tennis ‘greatest fans’

Fans given the opportunity to travel with SA tennis stars to the US Open in September.

While the world’s top wheelchair tennis players will be battling to better their rankings at the Airports Company South Africa SA Open in Johannesburg this month, somewhere at the venue will be a panel of judges waiting to give fans a trip of a lifetime.

Wheelchair Tennis South Africa, in conjunction with Airports Company South Africa, is giving two “ Greatest Fans” an opportunity to travel with South African tennis stars to the US Open in New York in September. All they need to do to stand a chance of winning is to dress in a real Airports Company South Africa SA Open style and support the players.

Do not worry, that is easy. Fans are encouraged to come out in their numbers wearing “stand-out” sporting gear to express their enthusiasm and support for the highly anticipated Airports Company South Africa SA Open, to be staged at Ellis Park Tennis Stadium from April 14-18.

Two “Greatest Fans” will need to gear up and show off their funky, creative clothing and dedication towards the tournament and that will win them the competition. They will be known as the country’s best wheelchair tennis supporters.

In order to enter the competition, entrants must dial *120*1529# and follow the prompts. For more information please visit www.tennis.co.za.

The tournament events will consist of Men singles and doubles, Women singles and doubles, Quads singles and doubles and Boys and Girls (juniors) singles event and a Mixed doubles event.

“Airports Company South Africa wishes to encourage fellow South Africans to participate in this initiative and raise the awareness of wheelchair tennis. We are proud of the journey we have travelled with Wheelchair Tennis South Africa in developing the sport. By rewarding supporters of the sport with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the “Greatest Fans” Competition adds an exciting flavour to this relationship. This is a token of appreciation for the support South Africans, from all walks of life, have shown wheelchair tennis,” says Colin Naidoo, Acting Spokesperson of Airports Company South Africa.
