R’fontein SU4 team starts season with a bang

Randfontein Cricket Club’s Sunday 4 team are over the moon having secured their first win of the 2015 season by two wickets.

The match was played on Sunday (11 January) at the Randfontein Cricket Club fields against Riverlea, another West Rand team from Johannesburg.

Riverlea chose to bat first after winning the toss. Riverlea’s opening batsman, Sadik Patel was the highest scoring player in their team with 45 runs.

The rest of the line-up suffered under the bowling attack of Captain Grant Bell, who managed to take five wickets for only 14 runs in his six overs. Divan van der Berg took three wickets for 35 runs in his 10 overs.

It was only Grant’s second game back since his eight year absence from the game and according to him he has been working very hard on his seem bowling attack.

The last couple of batsmen had to bat in light drizzle and a decision was taken to cover the pitch after Riverlea finished their innings on 189 runs. The game was delayed for about two hours after witch Randfontein went in to bat with a reduced amount of 35 overs and a target of 133 runs.

Randfontein reached the total in the 31st over with the top scorers being Ethan Klassen (26 runs), Neil Engelbrecht (31) and Jan Fourie (28 not out).
