Night golf anyone?

Golfers to tee off at the sound of a rocket: "The lights will make it look like a fairy tale."

Golfers can look forward to something a bit out of the ordinary when Randfontein Golf Club hosts the new and exciting night golf next Friday (5 December).

No, that is not a print error – golf actually will be played at night with special light beacons that will highlight the green, fairway, hazards and holes. In addition, the ball golfers will be playing with is not the conventional golf ball. The ones that will be provided light up the moment they are hit.

Speaking to people about night golf and asking whether they have ever heard of it, surprise was seen on the face of local Gordon Hennie who said, “Are you sure it’s at night?”

The event at night is a nine-hole game and will have three different formats: American Scramble, IPS and Four-Ball Alliance. Golfers will tee off at the sound of a rocket being launched into the air that will add to the whimsical theme of the evening.

The event is not only for people who golf, partners have the freedom to sit inside the golf club and enjoy live music as well as fine food prepared by chefs from Randfontein Golf Club.

There is also the aesthetic aspect of the event and would make a lovely view for those who are not as interested in golf as their friends, families or partners that will participate.

Interested golfers will pay a fee of R400 per golfer, which includes a glow ball, green fees as well as supper and live music.

“The lights will make it look like a fairy tale. It’s any golfer’s dream,” says Lillian Swanepoel, events coordinator at Randfontein Golf Club.
