All systems go for annual dance showcase

'The talent promises to be electrifying.'

Every year the Mario Gomes Dance Academy puts together a dance showcase.

At this showcase dance styles such as hip-hop, contemporary, break-dance, new school and urban street dance are exhibited.

The showcase is scheduled to take place from 17 to 20 September. According to the owner of Mario Gomes Hip Hop Dance Academy, Mario Gomes, “All the academy’s dancers will come together for their one passion, dance. This is truly a remarkable show as it brings together a variety of people from different backgrounds for their love of dance and music.”

Although the event is mostly sold out, spectators will be able to enjoy great dancing exhibitions by some of the best dancers from Westonaria, Potchefstroom, Carletonville, Randfontein, Krugersdorp, Roodepoort, North Joburg, Muldersdrift, Kagiso and even Soweto.

According to Gomes the original show was planned only for three days, but due to popular demand and the fact that a lot of the dancers will be leaving for Germany, an extra day has been scheduled.

All profits from this showcase will go towards two underprivileged dancers, Khaya Dhladhla and Terrence Nkwatshirema to help them pay for their flights and accommodation while they are competing in Germany.

Currently the academy has 18 dancers chosen for the Hip Hop World Championships and its crews and soloists are ranked first in South Africa.

“The talent at the showcase promises to be electrifying and it is surely a show not to be missed,” says Gomes.
