Clark ignoring imminent putting ban

South African focused on his game, not worrying about the banning of the long putter.

South African golfer Tim Clark says he is focusing on his game and not worrying about the banning of the long putter, which is set to come into effect January 1, 2016.

The 38-year-old has been using an anchored putter throughout his career due to a birth defect which affects the rotation in his forearms.

He came from behind to win the Canadian Open this past weekend, his second PGA Tour title, and he says he will alter his putting technique when necessary.

“I think that’s probably been on my mind for the last couple years, knowing that the change is coming, and every time I’m home I’m tinkering with stuff, seeing what I’m going to do,” Clark said. “I think that’s taken away from my play.

“The last month or so I’ve stopped doing that. I’ve kind of put it to the back [of my mind] now, and I’m going to just do with what I’ve got now, and maybe give it more thought sometime next year.”

Clark’s Canadian Open victory saw him rising 78 spots in the world rankings to 75th and also booked his spot in the final Major of the year — the PGA Championship at the Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, Kentucky in America, starting on August 7.
