Bok Sevens win Commonwealth gold

Four times champions New Zealand beaten by Blitzbokke 17-12 for gold.

The Springbok Sevens clinched gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glagow when they defeated four times champions New Zealand 17-12 at Ibrox Stadium on Sunday evening.

The South Africans were undefeated on the first match day, beating the Cooks Islands, Trinidad and Tobago and also Kenya.

On Sunday they overcame Scotland 35-12 in the quarterfinals before beating Samoa 35-7 in the semis to secure a spot in the final against New Zealand.

Seabelo Senatla scored two tries and Cecil Afrika added another, while Branco du Preez was successful with one conversion as the Blitzbokke handed New Zealand their first ever Commonwealth defeat.

The Kiwis were only able to score two tries through Sherwin Stowers and Joe Webber, while Gillies Kaka was able to knock over one conversion.
