White: ‘Play-offs should be banished’

'Great White' questions the current structure of Super Rugby.

Cell C Sharks director of Rugby Jake White has questioned the current structure of Super Rugby and has called on the play-offs to done away with.

With the Sharks scheduled to clash with the Crusaders in Christchurch on Saturday, White has again voiced his concerns over this year’s format and the future expansion of Super Rugby.

White told SA Rugby: “Sanzar is going to have to have a long look about whether or not we should have quarter-finals and play-offs cause we are wasting a lot of time, a lot of money.

White’s proposed solution is to re-size the competition and do away with the play-offs all together.

“In a smaller competition everyone plays. Player welfare comes first, national teams come first but that’s never going to happen when you’re trying to sell 169 rugby games on TV as opposed to 55 rugby games on TV,” White added.
