Schwartzel finishes in British Open Top 10

Score of 34 before the final stretch sees him hit just one less to round off impressive innings.

South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel fired a bogey-free 5-under-par to record a final score of 67 in the final round of The Open Championship to record his first top-10 finish in this event.

Schwartzel’s front nine accumulated to a score of 34 before the final stretch saw him hit just one less to round off an impressive innings.

The 29-year-old grabbed just two birdies over his first 14 holes, but quickly added to that tally with birdies on the par-3 15th and par-5 16th and 18th, adding up to an 11-under 277 total.

The Johannesburg-born golfer cracked into the top 20 on three previous occasions, but this year’s outing saw him finally cash in with a notable finish.

Fellow countryman Louis Oosthuizen finished tied in 36th place with a total of 72 in the fourth round, after striking 70, 68 and 76 in the other three previous rounds.
