Dancer excels in Barcelona

Chanel Pretorius on top during Barcelona Dance Awards.

Local dancer Chanel Pretorius made it clear that her passion for dance will conquer the world after she took top honors during the 2014 Barcelona Dance Awards.

Pretorius explains that she has only been dancing for two years but, regardless of her little experience, her fighting heart and passion for dancing stood out above the rest in Barcelona.

“Before I could prove myself on the international stage, I had to take part in various trials for the International Fine Arts Association of South Africa,” Pretorius said.

After her final round of trials, Pretorius was chosen to be part of the South African Diamond dance team who competed in Barcelona during April this year.

Pretorius explains that 40 dancers from all over South Africa were chosen to be part of this team.

“With the golden opportunity to make my mark internationally, I prepared myself and practiced really hard. I took part in both the Hip-Hop and Freestyle disciplines,” Pretorius continued.

With her astonishing routine and sharp wit on the dance floor, Pretorius managed to receive her international colors in both the disciplines she took part in.

She also received a trophy as the overall winner of the freestyle category as well as two gold medals in her respective categories.

“This came as a huge surprise. I could not believe that I was the overall winner of this category as I am only dancing for a couple of years,” Pretorius added.

With international colors in both Hip-Hop and Freestyle, Pretorius has her mind set on obtaining international colors in various other dance disciplines as well.

Seeing that she has an amazing passion for dance, being a choreographer is also one of the many things this talented dancer wants to achieve in years to come.
