Motorsport at its best at Tarlton Raceway

Race enthusiasts can prepare themselves for an explosive day of action packed racing with Round 5 of the 2013 SA National Drag Racing Championship taking place at Tarlton International Raceway on 24 September.

Race enthusiasts can prepare themselves for an explosive day of action packed racing with Round 5 of the 2013 SA National Drag Racing Championship taking place at Tarlton International Raceway on 24 September.

Spectators will be guaranteed some awesome competition runs amongst some of the fastest drag car competitors in South Africa as the Top Eliminator Category showcases drivers like the A-Class Dragster pilots, Dalmain Hattingh and Deon Swanepoel along with Werner Conradie and Nico van Rensburg while they devour the asphalt with some spectacular racing on the Day.

These Top Eliminator beasts are known for posting monstrous times of 6 – 7 seconds at over 300 km/h over the quarter mile.

Bringing everything to the fight will be Nico van Rensburg to keep his championship points lead over the rest of the Senior Eliminator arsenal.

Chasing the points leader will be Gavin Wilkins followed by a host of competitiors such as, Wessel Oosthuizen, Hannes Minnaar, Pieter Lombard, Sybie Coetzee, Marius Oosthuizen and Kobus Kruger.

Topping the Super Competition Leaderbords are, Simon Slooten, Chris Dicks, Russell Slater, Shaun Watson, Mark Slooten while turning up the heat to gain some points lead will be Louwtjie van den Berg and Johan van Zyl followed by Jannie Badenhorst.

Competition Eliminator will see drivers such as Michelle Taylor, Leon Gouws, Andre de Beer, Jan Lubbe, Dennis van Loggenberg along with many more.

Street Eliminator will have two brackets racing on the day, Super Street with a race bracket of 11.00 to 14.00 seconds will see Ugan Naidoo, Hussain Ismail, Chris Foley, Jozo Boszniak and Philip von Wieliigh to name but a few while in Modified street, which have a race bracket of 13.50 to 17.00 seconds, will see female racers such as, Elise Havenga and Ester Cloete fight it out along the male drivers such as Hennie van Rensburg, Francois Weydeman and Marco van den Berg.

Biker fans will also be spoilt with most of the country’s quickest and fastest street and drag bikes with riders such as Jerry Lombard, Zafar Hoosen, Shaun and Bertus Breedt will offer stiff competition in the SS-Bikes Class while in the SB-Bikes class, Peter de la Rey, Jesaja Lombard, Peet Viviers and Leonard Roberts will battle it out to gain maximum points for the day.

Topping off the day will be exhibition runs by Nico van Rensburg and Shaun Watson in the Famous, Tarlton J34 Westinghouse Jet Dragsters.

These beasts are capable of reaching speeds in excess of 400 km/h over a quarter mile. Adding to the excitement, Swedish Top Fuel Dragster Pilot, Dennis Nilsson will be out at the track for the day testing a 6000hp Top Fuel Dragster with the possibility of doing a 5 second quarter mile time.

Tickets will be available at Tarlton’s main gate on the day at R80 per adult and R40 for children aged between 6 and 12-years.

Tarlton offers plenty of free parking and take-away food and refreshments available at the venue.

The gates open at 7am and racing is set to start at around 8am. Should the event rain out, it will be re-scheduled for Sunday 29 September 2013.
