Race enthusiasts can prepare themselves for an explosive day of action packed racing as the Tarlton International Raceway kicks of Round three of the 2013 SA National Drag Racing Championship on 17 June.

Spectators will be guaranteed some awesome competition runs among some of the fastest drag car competitors in South Africa as the Top Eliminator Category showcases drivers like the A-Class Dragster pilots, Dalmain Hattingh and Deon Swanepoel along with the A-Class Funny Car Pilot, Werner Conradie and Nico van Rensburg in the Top Alcohol Funny Car, while they devour the asphalt with some spectacular racing on the Day.

Bringing everything to the fight will be Arthur Joubert to keep his championship points lead over the rest of the SKF Senior Eliminator arsenal. Chasing the points leader will be youngster, Wessel Oosthuizen, Hannes Minnaar, Charles Slater, Nico van Rensburg and Gavin Wilkins.

Joining the latter will be Azy Raidan, Sybie Coetzee and the “Budler Motorsport” E30 Turbo Charged BMW along with Kobus Kruger. Topping the Super Competition Leaderbords are, Chris Dicks, Russell Slater, Shaun Watson, Mark Slooten and Simon Slooten.

Turning up the heat to gain some points lead will be Louwtjie van den Berg and Johan van Zyl followed by Jannie Badenhorst.

Fighting to keep the points lead in Competition Eliminator will be drivers such as Quentin Boylan, Satish Harrichand, Michelle Taylor, Leon Gouws, Andre de Beer, Kalen Arumugam along with many more.

Street Eliminator will have two brackets racing on the day, Super Street with a race bracket of 11 to 14 seconds will see Ugan Naidoo, Hussain Ismail, Chris Foley, Jozo Boszniak and Philip von Wieliigh, while in Modified street, which have a race bracket of 13.50 to 17.00 seconds, will see female racers such as, Elise Havenga and Ester Cloete fight it out along the male drivers such as Hennie van Rensburg, Francois Weydeman and Marco van den Berg to name but a few.

Biker fans will also be spoilt with most of the country’s quickest and fastest street and drag bikes with riders like Jerry Lombard, Zafar Hoosen, Shaun and Bertus Breedt offering stiff competition in the SS-Bikes Class while in the SB-Bikes class, Peter de la Rey, Jesaja Lombard, Peet Viviers and Leonard Roberts will battle it out to gain maximum points for the day.

Topping off the day will be exhibition runs by Nico van Rensburg in the Famous, Tarlton J34 Westinghouse Jet Dragster.

This beast of a machine is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 400 km/h over a quarter mile.

Tickets are available at Tarlton’s main gate on the day at R80 for adults and R40 for children aged between 6 and 12 years.

Tarlton offers plenty of free parking and take-away food and refreshments available at the venue.

The gates open at 7am and racing is set to start at around 8am. Should the event rain out, it will be re-scheduled for Sunday 23 June.
