The business people and residents in Greenhills wish to thank the Herald for your article regarding the deteriorated service station in Greenhills.

For more than two years the area of the filling station has been fenced in, blocking the view of passing traffic in Kenneth Road to businesses in Elite Street. As this fence was not properly constructed it falls over constantly and this, together with the building being stripped of some of the roof coverings, degrade the whole area.

The matter has been reported to the local municipality, with not any feedback. The ward councillor has not done anything from his side, although the DA offices are right across the street from the filling station.

It is unbelievable that an international company like Sasol allows a building in one of the busiest nodes of Randfontein to be stripped, well aware that most of the petrol companies will be too willing to re-open a filling station on this site.

Thank you to the Herald for taking hands with the local business people and residents not to allow our town to be turned into a slum. Pressure will have to be put on Sasol to either upgrade or sell off this filling station, which affects the whole neighbourhood.

When Sasol was contacted two years ago the company assured the business people that this site would be renovated and upgraded within the next few months. Nothing came of these promises.

Randfontein community urges all concerned to ensure that something is done to this eyesore.

Absa has also been approached making them aware that there is no Sasol filling station in Randfontein where their clients can earn loyalty points, as Absa is constantly trying to convince their clients to make use of the system where loyalty points can be earned when filling up at a Sasol service station.
