Where are you going?

Pastor Gerrit Mes; From the pulpit

I love stories. Stories often carry deep and profound challenges for the reader.

Recently I read a comical story of an incident in Albert Einstein’s life. Apparently, he was travelling on a train when a conductor asked for his ticket. Mr Einstein searched in all his pockets but could not find the ticket. The sympathetic conductor told him, “Don’t worry, I know who you are and I am sure you have a ticket”.

The conductor moved on to other passengers. As he glanced back, Einstein was on his knees looking still frantically looking for the ticket under his seat. The conductor made his way back and insisted, “Don’t worry, you don’t have to find your ticket”. Einstein looked up and said, “I have to find the ticket, I don’t know where I am going”. Many people on life’s journey don’t know where they are going. We grow up, get out of school, get an education, get a job, get a car and a house and a family. We wait to retire and then we die. What is the point in it all?

Imagine if you could know your life’s purpose and embrace it.

For me it was as a pupil at KHS in the 70s. I was about to do all the above like 99 per cent of my friends. Then I responded to a call on my life, a call to serve others and my community.

Many years later I still find joy in helping people find their ‘ticket’ and discover their purpose. What is your purpose?
