UPDATE: Alcohol destroys our nation

Whatever I write to the Herald must be supported and backed-up biblically with chapters and verses, and Heaven must bear witness.

After my letter titled ‘Alcohol destroys our nation’ was posted on the Herald’s letter page dated on 22 March 2019, I received many phone calls from people requesting me to elaborate and support my statement.

Whatever I write to the Herald must be supported and backed-up biblically with chapters and verses, and Heaven must bear witness. Thus in the Book of Revelations 22:18–19 God says: Do not add anything to this Book, do not edit, remove or subtract anything in this Book of Law.

Taking into account that the Scripture says: The word of God is the food of the spirit. That is why the public and society wants scriptural and biblical references in the Bible regarding alcohol consumption. Let us see what God and Scripture say about the consumption of intoxicating beverage or liquor.

1. Proverbs 4 verse 17: “They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.”

2. Proverbs 20 verse 1: “Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler, whoever is led astray by them is not wise.”

3. Proverbs 21 verse 17: “The one who loves pleasure will become poor, whoever loves wine and oil will never be rich.”

4. Proverbs 23 verse 20–21: “Do not join those who drink too much or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor and drowsiness clothes them in rags”.

5. Proverbs 23 verse 29–32: “Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. Do not gaze at wine when it is red when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.”

6. Proverbs 31 verse 4–7: “It is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, lest they drink and forget what the law decrees, and deprive all oppresses of their rights. give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish, let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.”
