Residents put in danger by WRDM

It is a disgrace that the ANC’s financial mismanagement has once again threatened the safety of residents.

Residents of Fochville on the far West Rand have been put in danger by the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) as the fire station in the area is closing.

The reason is that the municipality has not paid rent to the owner of the building since October 2017.

The owner is owed R140 000 by the errant ANC municipality. This matter has been taken to court, and an order of attachment of the fire station’s equipment has been issued.

While it is believed that in May the station will be relocated to Wedela, some distance from Fochville, they will be unable to deal with emergency situations due to their equipment being attached by the court.

With the weather turning colder as we approach winter, there is an increased risk of fires as people try to keep warm.

The Fire Brigade is a critical emergency service that must be on standby 24/ 7.

The inability of dedicated firefighters to carry out their jobs is yet another example of ANC government bungling that has put the lives of residents in harm’s way.

I will write to Cooperative Governance MEC, Uhuru Moiloa and demand to know why the municipality has failed to pay the rent on this building, when the money owed will be paid, when the attached equipment will be replaced and where the fire station will be relocated to.

It is a disgrace that the ANC’s financial mismanagement has once again threatened the safety of residents.
