Some thoughts regarding traffic in Randfontein

There are quite a few people who don't know how a traffic circle works.

The traffic circle at Tambotie Mall …

It seems to me that there are quite a few people who don’t know how a traffic circle works. As far as I know, the traffic approaching from your right has the right of way. In other words, the traffic in the circle has the right of way (as at a bigger circle).

Please, it is not a four-way stop. The whole idea of a traffic circle is to let the traffic flow.

I just think it was a bad idea on the part of the traffic department to create two lanes entering the circle from the northern side, because almost everyone that is going straight enters in the left-hand lane instead of the right-hand lane.

I think just one lane would be sufficient and much less confusing.

The traffic light in Lazaar Avenue, Tambotie Mall …

I would just like to know why all the traffic travelling in a western direction must wait while the right-hand lane traffic is turning into the mall. The traffic travelling straight will not be obstructing any other traffic while the right-hand lane traffic is turning.

The Finsbury intersection at the Shell garage …

There are two lanes available approaching from the western side, but the right-hand lane is only for traffic turning right. There are very few cars turning right, and during the morning peak hour, a long line builds up in the left-hand lane to cross the intersection.

I think the left-hand lane should be for traffic turning left and going straight (like it is now). But the right-hand lane should be for traffic going straight and turning right. There is enough space on the other side of the intersection for two lanes if the lines are shifted a little bit. That way the build-up of traffic will be much less.
