Please publish a list of emergency numbers

It would be extremely helpful if the municipality would periodically publish a list of emergency numbers that MIGHT enable one to get some assistance in an emergency on a holiday!

On New Year’s Day we awoke to see water pouring from a building site across the road in front of our house.

We tried every available phone number to find someone to help. The response to the numbers in the directory was “this number does not exist” (011 951 3000).

Eventually we tried 107. The lady sounded helpful and gave us an 0860 number which turned out to be for Ekurhuleni (East Rand). Eventually the building contractor was reached and the problem was fixed.

Couple this fiasco with a street light in front of our house not working for more than a year, despite numerous requests to have it fixed, and the potholes in our street of which one was filled with sand. Obviously the municipality cannot afford tar, not to mention at least eight to ten people to do the job. It leaves one reeling at the mismanagement and incompetence of the municipality.
