Legalise marijuana now – pastor

"This God-given herb has the potential of growing the economy and creating stable jobs."

During its CEC meeting held recently, Sekhukhune Congress has resolved to join in campaigns to legalise marijuana for both medical and recreational use.

This naturally grown African herb with minimum negative effects has been criminalised in our country for ultra-conservative reasons, benefiting the colourless monopoly capital.

Should the government heed this noble call, South Africa will witness not only a massive drop in premature arrests and prison costs, but will also allow police resources to be redirected where they are needed most (combating crime and protecting women / children).

It has been proved that marijuana is less harmful compared to alcohol and tobacco/ nicotine, this is why the party is yet to see the sense in criminalising it. This God-given herb has the potential of growing the economy and creating stable jobs.

As part of this campaign the party will rubbish myths and propaganda spread by anti-marijuana lobbyists who directly profit from alcohol/ tobacco businesses, which cause more deaths than any civil war has ever done. We will also advise the minister of health about the possible use of tax received from this initiative to fund the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme.
