I applaud municipality traffic officers

But, more manpower needed.

Let me start by applauding the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) traffic officers for their dedicated efforts in monitoring and combating the road fatalities within our vicinity on a regular basis.

I am not an expert but just a driver and road user therefore my observations can be proven wrong. I want to comment about accidents which took place within two days on the stretch of the R28 from Randfontein to the Uncle Harry’s intersection.

On 25 January, on the train bridge between Wilmar and the Tiger Brands premises, an Audi ended up hanging off the bridge, and immediately after the four-way stop on the R28 near the traffic department and several small businesses, a mini-bus hit a truck in the back and then fell on its side.

On the morning of 27 January, on the same road (the R28) just next to Westgold Primary School, a car, possibly a white Camry, was involved in an accident, and on the same morning at the gate of the Tiger Brands premises, a Toyota Quantum hit a Mazda family car in the side.

These are the accidents I saw, but there might have been more. I therefore appeal to road users, both drivers and pedestrians, to exercise more patience on the road. Let’s assist our law enforcers to deal with road accidents.

I also wish to request our municipalities to put more officers out on our roads. With more officers visibly patrolling the roads, the number of accidents should decrease.

It is our collective effort that will save more lives on our roads, combat accidents and ensure that Randfontein is an Accident Free Zone.

I thank you.
