Filth gives our town a very bad name

Filth around squatter camps has reached proportions beyond redemption.

The unspeakable filth around the squatter camps on all the arterial routes to Randfontein has reached proportions beyond redemption.

Besides giving our town a very bad name, the rats as big as cats that we the taxpayers of the area have to endure, the very serious danger of bubonic plague and other infestations, are possible threats that must be considered.

Remember the complete jail that had to shut down because of rats? Will the smallholdings around these unhygienic dumps be evacuated?

The piece of land between the old boxing hall in Wheatlands and the first stop street in Randgate is especially a great concern. Has it been declared an official rubbish dump?

Shop owners and garden services are the biggest culprits, but who dumps the disposable nappies and other household rubbish?

In a very short time the new business operators at a nursery have created a complete rubbish dump opposite the road, openly and unashamedly dumping their business’ refuse and don’t give a damn what they do to the environment. But can all these conditions not be prevented by health inspectors, waste managers and environmental officials?

The taxpayer no doubt would be surprised to learn that we do have all these officials on the council. Waste management, health inspector and chief environmental official …

Just please don’t be so naive as to think you will find them in their offices or on a rotting site; these are the positions they fill and they receive a salary.

It is just that they are phantoms as well.

Must the taxpayers and residents of Randfontein endure their lack of performance forever?
