Proposed mine a well-kept secret

What will the environmental impact be?

It has come to the attention of a few residents of Elandsvlei smallholdings recently that a mine is going to start operations at the Rhino Sandworks on the southern side of Dwarskloof in the very near future.

Very few people, in fact only the recent owner of this site, knew about the proposed mine. Attempts to find out more are fruitless as the operators concerned cannot be traced.

As residents in the area we are very concerned.

Who is going to do the mining? What are they going to mine and what will the environmental impact be? Why were we, the public, taxpayers and voters not consulted?

Surely these operations can have an impact on our boreholes and the quality of our water, and as we as smallholding owners rely on our boreholes for our daily needs, it can be detrimental to our existence.

Can the councillor and chief environmental official please enlighten us either through the press, or by way of an official public meeting of what the situation is?
