Literacy Day dress up at Moddies
From Wonder Woman, Ghost Face and Wednesday Adams to Tsotsi and even former president Nelson Mandela. Laerskool Modderfontein Primary School learners impersonate their favourite characters for International Literacy Day.
Laerskool Modderfontein Primary School and Hillshaven Library celebrated International Literacy Day and SA National Book Week where learners dressed up as their favourite book characters.
According to Library supervisor Lydia Anne van Aswegen, Moddies and Hillshaven Library together with Rand West City Libraries collaborate regularly to promote reading and literacy in school and the community.
“This is a very successful and well-functioning partnership between Laerskool Modderfontein Primary and Rand West City Libraries. The day [September 19] was filled with laughter and fun as the learners and school staff wore their book character costumes. A wide variety of costumes were presented, ranging from superheroes, and fairies to even more serious characters like Tsotsi,” said Lydia.
She concluded, “We even had a learner that took the initiative to dress as his role model Nelson Mandela after he read Mandela’s autobiography.”
