Phahama High School class of 1973 holds 50-year reunion

The purpose was to have them reconnect with one another as former school mates and share good old memories.

Phahama High School’s class of 1973 was in high spirits and celebrated their 50-year reunion at Ko Plotong along Lazaar Avenue in Wheatlands on Monday, May 1.

The event was well attended by the former learners of the school who have now become elderly citizens. The purpose of the event was to have them reconnect with one another as former schoolmates and share good old memories.

Speaking to the Herald in an interview, the organiser of the event, Hugh Phokojoe, said that the event was a great success and that a total of 35 people attended.

“We were celebrating 50 since we all left Phahama High School, which was a secondary school back in 1973. We felt that 50 years of having left school and coming together again and just seeing each other after such a long time is a milestone.

“It was great to see one another. Others still look good and others are struggling health-wise but by the grace of God, they are still with us,” said Phokojoe, who added that one of their teachers was also present on the day.

She, unfortunately, couldn’t remember them due to old age but was delighted to have been present at the gathering.

Meanwhile, one of the learners from the class of 1973, Simon Phage, said that he too had an amazing time at the reunion.

“It was great reconnecting after 50 years and I had a wonderful time. A special thanks to the organising team. I look forward to our next catch-up,” said Phage.

While the festivities of the day went ahead in a joyous mood, sadly a total number of 23 men and 12 women have since passed on from the class of 1973.
