Waiting with bated breath for GDE’s placement SMS

Placement SMSes would be sent to parents gradually from October 3 till November 30 and they should not panic if they have not received it yet.

While some parents have received placement offers for their children who will be going to Grades 1 and/ or 8 in the 2023 academic year, others are still waiting with bated breath and are optimistic that their children will be accepted at their school of choice.

This was evident in the interactions that the Herald had with some of the parents who expressed their confidence in the system and said they found it easy to navigate the application.

Speaking to the Herald Mohlakeng resident Anastacia Modungwa whose child is set to go to Grade 8 next year said she was pleased with the system.

“It was relatively easy to apply online and I am just waiting for the SMS regarding my child’s placement,” said Modungwa.

Her child Onkgomoditse Modungwa is currently at FJL Wells Primary School and will be moving to Lukhanyo Secondary School.

The Herald also spoke to Finsbury resident Morongoa Letsoalo who said she too found it easy to navigate the system and was anxious about her child’s placement.

Her child Atang Letsoalo will be in Grade 1 next year.

“It was really easy applying for placement for my child and I didn’t experience any glitches.

“It took me less than 10 minutes and I am confident that my child will also get placement,” said Letsoalo

The Gauteng Department of Education’s online applications opened on July 22 during a special event at the Ramosa Community Hall in Mohlakeng and closed on August 19.

During that time, parents had to apply to secure a space for their children for the 2023 academic year at the schools of their choice.

Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi promised that placement SMSes would be sent to parents gradually from October 3 till November 30 and urged parents not to panic should they not have received it yet.

“SMSes will be sent out on a continual basis until the end of the placement period on November 30 this year.

“This means that not all applicants will receive an SMS on the first day of the placement period, but they must expect an SMS anytime between October 3 and November 30.

“If parents and guardians have not received an SMS, they don’t need to panic, as they are welcome to use their credentials to long onto gdeadmissions.gov.za and check whether they have received an offer or not,” said Lesufi.

In the event that parents have forgotten or lost their credentials to log onto the site, they must click on Forgot Password on the landing page and follow the prompts to regain access to the system.
