Clarisse Kruger, a volunteer at No More Tears explained they were contacted on March 17 about a dog found at a garbage dump in Finsbury where she was scavenging for food.
The dog was very neglected, thin and she also had mange,” said Clarisse.
The resident who called them was able to follow the dog back to her home.
Stephan Hendricks, one of the founders of No More Tears, then drove there immediately where he found the dog with her puppies.
“The owners did not want the dog any more and surrendered her and her puppies to No More Tears. She and the puppies lived under a tin roof, without any shelter. Through the cold and the rain, she raised her babies anyway,” explained Clarisse.
The dogs are currently being treated at Randfontein Animal Hospital and they all need to be vaccinated. No More Tears now needs the community’s help with the vet bills.
Clarisse noted the mom would need a good home and the puppies still need to be with her for about two weeks. Only then will they be available for adoption.
“If anyone is interested in adopting her, they can contact No More Tears on 084 433 7748. The normal adoption process will be followed,” said Clarisse.
