Security companies to make Randfontein a safer place, one camera at a time

Rand West Neighbourhood Watch and EPR have joined hands to make Randfontein a safer place.

EPR and Rand West Neighbourhood Watch have joined hands with multiple other stakeholders to set up a Red Eye camera at the intersection of Homestead Avenue and Kenneth Road.

Both EPR and Rand West Neighbourhood Watch along with the deputy mayor’s office and police representatives attended the launch of the cameras.

This is one of four camera posts with seven License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras which have been set up in Randfontein. According to Group CEO of EPR Security, Johan Booysen, raising funds for the camera was a year-long process.

He further mentioned the camera aims to monitor the number plates of vehicles of interest that pass through the intersections.

“This specific intersection is a central focus for crime and collisions. One weekend alone we were able to monitor about 30 000 vehicles. This will enable security to monitor important entries,” he explained.

G Pretorius Boerdery donated a pig for EPR’s raffle.

Chairman of the Rand West Neighbourhood Watch, Henry Boyce, said the set up of these cameras is an ongoing project and they plan to put more cameras in the Rand West. Their next intersection is most likely the intersection of R28 and Homestead Avenue near Uncle Harry’s Diner.

G Pretorius Boerdery donated a sheep for EPR’s raffle which raised funds for the camera.
