No More Tears’ mission leads to the rescue of 11 dogs in need

'Save the forgotten, heal the broken and love the unloved' — No More Tears Animal Rescue's Plan4Nine Project a success.

No More Tears recently started a Plan4Nine Project which led to the rescuing of 11 dogs from starvation and abandonment.

The project started in August when a resident reached out to the organisation.

According to volunteer Clarisse Kruger, the resident informed them that multiple dogs had been left behind by their owner. He was also concerned the dogs did not have any food or water source. At that stage, the organisation was aware of nine dogs in need, however, they noticed there were 11 dogs. Clarisse noted the dogs ranged from six months old to elderly age.

Since the resident reached out to the organisation, both he and the director Stephan Hendricks gave food and water to the dogs.

On September 1, the process of catching and treating the dogs started. Four dogs could be carried to safety while the remaining dogs had to be caught with trapping cages. They managed to catch seven dogs.

September 8 was a tough day considering they were unable to catch the remaining four dogs. However, they remained steadfast and succeeded in catching the last dogs on September 15. Clarisse emphasised the success was rewarded to Dr Johan Naudé who darted the dogs.

Clarisse added some of these dogs needed urgent medical attention. One dog had a broken back leg (which had to be amputated) while another dog’s leg was misshapen.

“The sad reality is the dogs patiently waited for their owner to return. The only place these dogs knew ‘as home’ was destroyed. The only people they knew and were loyal to left them behind,” Clarisse said.

She added these animals lead a difficult life.

While the organisation was busy with this project, Clarisse mentioned a kindhearted family donated a piece of land that was used to house the dogs throughout the process. The organisation is also thankful to each individual who donated to their cause. She stated the costs added up to R60 000.

“No More Tears Animal Rescue is incredibly grateful and greatly appreciates everyone’s donations and support, we couldn’t have done it without the community,” she expressed.

The organisation also gave thanks to the resident and Dr Johan for helping them during the project.

This dog was named Smiley.

“No More Tears Animal Rescue strives to rescue, help, rehabilitate and rehome abused, neglected and stray animals. We save the forgotten, heal the broken and love the unloved.

“While we also teach the poorer communities in and around Randfontein and Krugersdorp, we also help with sterilisations and vet care for animals in need. No More Tears Animal Rescue has made great strides in helping and saving efforts, but we still have a lot to accomplish. Any support would be appreciated,” Clarisse concluded.
