SPCA fundraiser to boost financial coffer and help abused animals

The RandWest SPCA held a successful fundraiser to cover everyday costs and aid in their fight against animal abuse.

The RandWest SPCA shook cans recently to raise funds for their maintenance and everyday costs.

According to vice chairperson Candice Eno, the fundraiser was a great success after they managed to raise about R2 000.

“The day was successful for us. We had a few people who asked questions about adoptions and animal care as well as the much-needed funds,” she explained.

The fundraiser went so smoothly that the committee and volunteers had no challenges. Candice mentioned further that the public, security and the loan of chairs from Wimpy, as well as the mall management, contributed to the success.

Volunteers Tristin Rugg and Arend Prinsloo shake their cans for donations.

Since the RandWest SPCA serves a broad area including Randfontein, Westonaria and most parts of Krugersdorp, they held the fundraiser to maintain kennels, give feed to their animals, afford petrol and fight animal abuse.

“Our mandate is to fight against animal abuse and prosecute those who have abused an animal. Therefore, we need the funds to continue doing this work,” she said.

The fundraiser not only played a role in raising necessary funds but also in educating and encouraging the public about sterilisation and vaccination of their pets. The committee also encouraged residents to speak out about animal abuse.

“We would like to thank the community for the much-needed support as well as the donations received. Thank you for the positive feedback and appreciation received by the community,” she thanked.
