Heroine up for SA’s highest Good Samaritan award

A woman from Mohlakeng is doing all she can to help the needy and stand up for women in general. She now needs your help to win at the 2024 SA Heroes Awards.

To celebrate Women’s Month, Georgina Mapule Mphatswe, a 2024 SA Heroes Awards nominee, visited Mphesiriti Welfare in Pelzvale to donate food for the shelter residents. She also gifted clothing to various less fortunate individuals.

She was also part of another event in Kempton Park while the other was in Mphumalanga to advocate for gender-based violence (GBV) victims. Georgina then attended another GBV event in Randfontein where she was the motivational speaker.

According to Georgina, the country commemorates Women’s Month as a tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on August 9, 1956.

“Women are the backbones of families and communities. They nurture and provide care and support. This is essential to the development of children. Women also play a significant role in building a community. Women’s Month is a time to honour and celebrate the contributions of women in general,” she said.

The five good qualities Georgina believes a woman should have include empathy, kindness, determination, ambition and loyalty.

“A good woman is also someone who is compassionate, resilient and treats others with respect,” she added.
