Rasheed’s boerewors among the 10 best in SA

He’s been dreaming of this for 22 years. Randfontein’s own Rasheed Hassan finally lands the top 10 spot in the Championship Boerewors Competition.

Rasheed Hassan from Randgate has been chasing his dream of making the country’s best boerewors for over two decades, to finally be named as a top 10 finalist in the Shoprite and Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition this year.

“I have tirelessly been adjusting and finetuning my recipe for 22 years and am super proud that at long last I managed to find the perfect combination of different spices for a boerewors that has made it into the top 10 and is in the running for being the champion,” Hassan said who is also the regional Meat Market manager for Shoprite.

After impressing an expert panel of judges from the South African Chefs Association over multiple rounds, Hassan will now join nine other contestants at the grand finale in Cape Town on August 24.

Here they will prepare and cook their boerewors for judges Zanele van Zyl, Carmen Niehaus, James Khoza, Mattew Howcroft and Martin Kobald. The winner will be declared on the day and will take home incredible prizes – including a brand-new Toyota Fortuner 2.4 GD RB AT – and the coveted title of 2024 Boerewors Champion.

The winning recipe will also be for sale in Shoprite and Checkers stores nationwide from September 6.
