Long road of rehabilitation for chained-up Nala

A dog who was found tied to a fence with a chain, as well as a lock, is in dire need of the community's support.

Recently, No More Tears Animal Rescue was called to assist with a dog that had been chained up at the Randfontein Golf Course.

Stephan Hendricks, founder and director of the rescue, explained the dog (which they have since named Nala) was in a bad condition when they found her. She was tied to the fence with a strong chain as well as a lock and adhesive tape.

“She had no way of escaping, she was left for dead. We are so thankful for the people who found her.”

On August 5, Nala was picked up from Homestead Veterinary Hospital after about a week in their care. She received a general check and she was sterilised, vaccinated and dewormed.

She is currently in the No More Tears boarding kennels while being rehabilitated before being available for adoption. They are hoping to find her a loving home where she will be cared for.

Stephan added, “We are desperate for donations, not only for our vet bills that are growing but also our kennel fees where we board the animals.”

He explained they are looking for a piece of land where they can build kennels and board the animals, unfortunately, that is just not financially possible at the moment.

He stated they have various options on their website where people can donate. She added their shelter costs amount to around R20 000 which only includes food and boarding, not to mention their vet bills. In the last month, they have had around six big cases where animals had to have a leg amputated or a broken leg or a broken jaw.

“We can’t do it on our own, we need people’s support.”
