Old age home raises funds to take care of their residents

Mohlakeng Old Age Home held a luncheon to raise funds for the home.

The Mohlakeng Old Age Home held a lunch for its residents and their families to raise funds for the home.

The centre manager for the home, Tsidi Sepanya, explained the families bought tickets for the lunch which included a starter, main course and dessert. There was also a Gospel singer and gumboot dancers to entertain the guests.

She noted the Department of Social Development funds 75% of the home’s expenses and the rest they have to pay for themselves. This includes the payment of the staff members, the maintenance of the centre and the care of the residents. She added the centre needs revamping.

They currently have over 60 residents who have illnesses varying from Dementia to Alzheimer’s and other chronic illnesses and whose family needs help taking care of them.

“The response for the fundraiser was good and we hope to plan more in the future,” said Tsidi.

The sponsors for the event included Pastor Thabo Ngidi, Nthabiseng Mogale Sepanya, Manyane Diale and Terry Mokale, the tickets were self-made.
