Lenmed swaps scrubs for overalls at Hillside Care Centre

Lenmed Randfontein Private Hospital renovated and made various donations at the Hillside Care Centre.

Lenmed Randfontein Private Hospital spent their 67 minutes renovating the Hillside Care Centre.

On July 24, the hospital staff swapped their scrubs and stethoscopes for overalls, paint brushes and cleaning products to redecorate the care centre. The outreach included painting walls and cleaning the rooms which put a smile on the faces of the elderly. The hospital also raised funds to gather enough staple foods and toiletries to gift to the care centre.

According to Lenmed Hospital manager Johan Lombaard, they have been celebrating Mandela Day since it started and continue to spend their 67 minutes with the community wherever it is needed.

“We chose the Hillside Care Centre because we thought it was important to focus on the elderly and illnesses such as dementia,” Johan stated.

The hospital’s goal was to make a difference in the lives of the elderly this year. He added the painting of the walls also stands as a reminder to the residents of the care centre that the people care for them.

“We always try to go big with the celebrations, however, if the residents can tell the person next to them how much they are cared for, it would still make a big difference,” Johan claimed.

Facility manager Paul Grové said that the project was much needed and he hoped that by doing it, it would put a smile on the face of the residents.

“Our residents are entitled to have something nice. We are so excited to see the building come to life again. We never could have afforded it, but thanks to Lenmed, we now have it,” she expressed.

According to Elize, the centre has about 15 residents ranging from the age of 60 to 90.
