Connie Mulder Centre spoilt for 67 minutes

Two businesses spoil Connie Mulder Centre on Mandela Day.

MAN Automotive and Plant Elite Projects took hands to spend 67 minutes treating residents of Connie Mulder Centre.

Two organisations partook in the celebration of Mandela Day (July 18) to treat the disabled.

Patricia Kriel, sales manager of MAN Automotive, told the Randfontein Herald that they wanted to make a change by visiting the centre. Not only did they bring snacks and gifted the residents with hats, but they also brought with them a truck and bus.

The residents were highly fascinated by the huge vehicles and they were able to enjoy a few snacks with their caps fitted perfectly on their heads. Patricia claimed MAN Automotive has been helping the less fortunate annually since Mandela Day became an international day of honour.

“We strive to always help the less fortunate every year on Mandela Day. Therefore, we reach out to those who struggle and we give our 67 minutes to make them feel seen. We want to take hands as a rainbow nation,” Patricia said.

The outreach to disabled people especially touches Patricia. She believes that disabled people cannot help themselves and the government does not always give support to organisations that house the disabled.

“I watched a documentary about Nelson Mandela. A woman whose child had a cleft palate wrote many letters to Mandela. He eventually reached out to her and helped her daughter. We need to help just like Mandela did,” she explained.

On this day they decided to plant trees on the property of the centre.

CEO of the centre Elona Uys stated that they felt honoured to have the organisation visit them.

“MAN offered to share Mandela Day with us. Connie Mulder decided to arrange for lunch. Our residents are very dear to us and we enjoy seeing them take delight on this Mandela Day,” Elona concluded.
