Family needs help after house fire

A family of four lost their belongings after a fire gutted their Greenhills home.

A Greenhills family needs the community’s help after they lost their home and belongings in a fire.

Rand West Emergency Services Fire Chief Benny Mohlabeng said they received a call about the fire at about 03:22 on July 8. When they arrived the roof had already collapsed and they proceeded to fight the blaze.

“The fire hydrants at the location did not have enough water and it was coming out in drips. We then had to get water from a street further on.”

The kitchen was destroyed.

According to Biance du Toit, a mother of three, the family is currently staying with her parents while looking for a place of their own. Not being able to salvage belongings as they fled the house for safety, the family is in desperate need of blankets, clothing and anything regarded as a necessity to help them. Most importantly, Du Toit’s son sadly lost his diabetic machine in the blaze.
