The fight against substance abuse results in a prayer walk

Prayer walk against substance abuse unites the Mohlakeng community.

Residents, organisations and law enforcement joined hands during a prayer walk against substance abuse in Mohlakeng.

This included the police, CPF, the Youth Crime Prevention Desk, Community Patrollers and Emihle Social Services with Themba Mkhabela, Thabang Nyambu and Sergeant Digoro as the main organisers.

According to youth leader Dimpho Makokoe, an estimated 120 people attended the opportunity to fight the hardships of substance abuse.

“We identified a need for God’s intervention in a social problem of substance abuse, mainly by young people in the community of Mohlakeng. We saw it important to ask for the help of the almighty God to fight against spiritual influences and forces that destroy young people’s lives due to abusing substances,” Makokoe said.

A prayer walk was held in order to fight against substance abuse.

Makokoe added that many young lives are taken because of substance abuse, leading to a rise in crime rates as well. That is why they decided to organise a prayer walk for the youth. The event was successful as many residents marched with a strong will to stand up against substance abuse.

“I enjoyed praying with young people outdoors and the most enjoyable experience was when the word of God was shared. I could see the expression of understanding amongst the people of the community,” Makokoe claimed.

She stated that when a community comes together in prayer, many issues can be solved. She believes that unity in the community is the strength of its people.

“We can and will overcome a lot of social issues if we stand together and put our trust in the Lord,” Makokoe concluded.
