Community food garden project growing day by day

The gardens aim to alleviate poverty within the community – NPO supervisor.

Sebueng Itumeleng’s community project where dumping sites are being turned into vegetable gardens, is growing by the day.

“We aim to create reachable ways to alleviate poverty and promote food security,” states supervisor for the NPO Mosala Koboyankwe.

He adds fresh food from the garden is also healthier than processed food.

The community has since started making contact with the NPO showing them dumping sites they can turn into gardens. The community members then help clean the sites and help with the gardens.

He mentions they still need donations saying that, “This will bring a radical change to the lives of the community.”

Their crops consist of a variety of goods catering to the needs of the community as they are not only in need of one specific thing.

“Our hope for the added gardens is to promote food security, as we know that we live in a critical state of economy where we experience a very poor standard of living, due to the recession we are facing. Therefore these gardens will reduce the high demand for economic stability,” Mosala says.
