What residents think of NHI …

The Herald hit the streets and asked a few residents about the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill which was recently signed into law.

The Randfontein Herald asked residents if they are for, or against the National Health Insurance (NHI).

Resident Simoné Barnard stated that she is against the system of the NHI because she is unsure if it will benefit the residents.

“I do not know if it is true, but I heard that the individuals who are paying for their medical aid will have to pay a certain amount of money for the people who do not have medical aid. We work hard to pay our medical aid bills. It also seems like a lot of people are going to be jobless due to the amount of healthcare professionals who choose to leave the medical field. I also feel like there will be a shortage of medical supplies,” Barnard said.

Annie Nolan said she does not agree with the NHI.

“Both my husband and I are on medical aid. I am a diabetic and he suffers from arthritis. Our medical fees are astronomically large and therefore our medical aid helps us,” Nolan expressed.
