Cops warn kids of the ‘stranger danger’ rule

As part of their Child Protection Week commemorations, the local police along with other stakeholders visited Laerskool Westgold Primary.

The Randfontein police, other law enforcement along with government visited Laerskool Westgold Primary School as part of their Child Protection Week celebrations.

According to the Social Crime Prevention co-ordinator at the Randfontein police, Sergeant Portia Mabala, the programme aimed to talk to children in person about their welfare. A total of 605 children were reached.

“Child Protection Week highlights the importance of building strong and supportive communities that prioritise the safety and well-being of children,” Mabala said.

Issues such as children’s rights, child labour, child abuse, bullying, dangerous weapons, drugs, delinquency, kidnapping, trafficking, and missing children were addressed.

“We interacted with the children by singing and playing games,” she said.

“Further, the children were informed they must report to their parents and teachers if they have been touched on their special [private] body parts. The children were also educated not to talk to strangers, not to take sweets and money from strangers, the #StrangerDanger rule and to always inform their grown-ups where they are at all times to avoid going missing.”
