The tournament was part of the Mzansi Libraries Online’s “Libraries of the Future”. This is according to librarian McNeil Mdluli who added that the Provincial Library Services introduced Xbox consoles in both Randfontein and Westonaria regions.

McNeil explained that the Randgate and Jabulani libraries competed against each other.

Winner Fikile Duma and Jabulani Librarian Lesedi Phosokana.

“Eight players in total were chosen for the tournament with four players representing each library. Randgate served as the defending champions for the floating trophy and proved successful after defeating Jabulani. The overall winner of the tournament was Fikile Duma.

“The purpose of these interlibrary tournaments is to keep the players engaged and interested while we identify the individuals whom we will potentially take to the main event later on this year,” McNeil said.

McNeil stated that the tournament aimed to attract the youth to libraries. The event also helped those who wish to pursue a career in online gaming. McNeil claimed that the Xboxes are used as a tool to market libraries to the youth.
