Randfontein CPF calls for unity and support

To successfully protect the community, the Randfontein CPF is asking the community to unite against crime.

The community is urged to unite against crime by supporting the Randfontein CPF.

Randfontein CPF Sector 2 chairperson Lawrence Lukas said, “We are trying to extend a hand to the police but we need the community to achieve this. If we all want to curb crime, we need to work together.”

He further emphasised crime is rife in town, most notably cable theft.

“The lack of unity in the community is a big concern, especially when it comes to tackling crime. Every person is trying to protect themselves but this leaves a crack for criminals to pounce,” he said.

In addition, Lawrence said the CPF is an NPO and therefore needs funding to do its work in the community.

He noted they are currently conducting their patrols on foot. Even though they do have vehicles they need fuel, which they cannot afford at this moment. They further need protective equipment such as bulletproof vests as well as comfortable shoes. He mentioned on March 22 they came across cables being stolen and the perpetrators shot at one of their patrollers seven times, luckily he was not hit.

They further need visible stickers to be identified, shirts jackets, and hats.

“This is a cry for the community to come on board,” said Lawrence.

Lawrence concluded by saying in the majority of cases, the CPF is the first to arrive on the scene when something happens. They even do patrols as far as Mogale Junction.

Anyone willing to join the CPF or who wants to donate is welcome to contact him on 072 361 5321.
