REM wins R20K with Edgars!

Randfontein Primary School (REM) is one of 40 schools in Gauteng to have won R20 000 in prize money in the Edgars CommUnity Competition.

“For 94 years, Edgars has been an integral part of South African society and is woven into the very fabric of communities across the nation. As a heartfelt expression of its gratitude, the retail giant extends its warmest thank you to the countless moms, dads, grannies, gogos, granddads, oupas, and every South African who has embraced and supported the brand throughout the decades,” said Norman Drieselmann, CEO of Retailability, the retail expert group that acquired and currently owns Edgars.

In a vibrant celebration of its loyal customer base, Norman said that Edgars embarked on a heartwarming journey of appreciation with the launch of the Edgars CommUnity Competition.

“This initiative has taken root in every town where Edgars has a store, aiming to uplift and give back to the very communities that have been an essential part of the brand’s journey. A remarkable three million rands are being distributed during this period, with the intent of giving a gift of support to both young minds and the schools that nurture them.

“This is a tribute to the people and communities that have stood by us over generations. It’s our way of expressing ‘thank you’ by investing in local schools and the children within the communities we serve.”

As part of this collective narrative, Edgars invited school-going children to create a self-portrait that reflects their uniqueness. The artworks were proudly displayed in store windows, transforming Edgars’ spaces into living tributes to its valued shoppers.

“Our customers define the Edgars brand, and this extraordinary campaign invites every individual who has contributed to the Edgars story to join in the opportunity to win not just for themselves, but for their schools as well. One child per store stood the chance to win a R5 000 cash prize, along with a R20 000 grant for their school and lots of instant prizes,” enthused Norman.
